Its nice to get a break from school and go snowboard. For thanksgiving dinner we had fondue, it was soooooooooo goood, forget turkey thats old news. I hope thanksgiving has been good for everyone else.

pg. 244 Young Goodman Brown

In goodman brown the main re-occuring theme that I found was evil and temptation. for example when he goes to meet with an evil man in the forest which represents evil and he is going to make an evil deal, he gives into his temptations and takes the staff from the man who was satan. other symbolism in the story are the ribbons on faith, and faith her self, they represent purity and well faith. Which Goodman Brown lets go of in the story.

Not so very Goodman Brown

This story was actually quite interesting because there was a lot to analyze in it . The major theme is everyone sins. For example at the end when there are other towns people at the evil meeting and Brown's wife faith. Faith also represents purity and goodness, and well his faith. When he goes to meet with the devil Brown abandons faith. The staff with the serpent represents temptation, like the serpent in the garden of Eden that tempted Eve to eat the apple. And the the meeting took place in the forest, which represents evil and sin as well. The story took place in Salem, ME which is basically the center for all the witch trails that took place back in the days of the puritans.

A Rose For Emily

I have only ever read one Faulkner piece and that was As I Lay Dying, and it wasn't very interesting. I enjoy a good classic but I'm not too particularly fond of Faulkner's works. A rose for emily is set in the south, like most of Faulkner's stories and books. The first interesting thing about the story is the narrator, who remains unknown throughout the story. He acts as the voice of the towns people, but can he be perhaps Tobe? a few times in the story he refers to her as Miss Emily. I guess I'll leave that up to your interpretation. I think the story was overall a bit creepy.

The most dangerous blog

For this blog I will be doing an anayalsis of the most dangerous game. I think the over all theme in the most dangerous game is violence, and cold heartedness. The general and Ivan were cold blooded killers who we're tired of hunting animals for they were too easy to hunt. So instead they hunted humans. Who does that? other than some sick messed up people. And Rainsford isn't for off for that, he still hunts animals but for the heck of it. So he ends up getting stranded on ship wreck island (btw that seems like some sort of foreshadowing, just the name makes it sound like the place isn't all too friendly) After being hunted rainsford ends up killing both of them, now the question is, is it because he did it for survival, or just because? thats left up to the readers interpretation, I think he did it just because he wanted to, the inner hunter in him came out, because deep down he wasn't any different than the general

BUFFy the vampire slayer

I enjoyed watching buffy in class on thursday, one: because it was halloween weekend, and two: it was a good break from talking about writing papers. I liked all the irony in the episode, it was very predictable and the production values were very low, it was very cheesy. I wouldn't mind watching it some more some time in class, other then irony there were also mirrors of the characters in it.

My Favortie book

Well I don't exactly have one all time favorite book, and I have read my fair share of books! I do how ever have a favorite author(s). Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child, together they write thriller/suspense novels and have their own separate novels as well. Some of their works include, Relic, The Ice Limit, Brimstone, Mt. Dragon and they have many more all of which I have read, I can stay up into the we hours of the night reading, and in class to, although my teachers never approve of that haha. Anyways those are my two favorite authors for you!

Randomness

So this weekend me and my friends decided last minuet to drive to Colorado to snowboard at loveland (which is where I took the picture you see) for opening day! , Despite the fact that I had two midterms due on Monday. It was sooooo worth driving 14 hours straight back and getting into vermilion at 7 a.m. this morning. I love to snowboard, and I will do what ever it takes to go snowboard when I am able to. I even made it back with enough time to get some extra sleep! and I did pretty good on my midterms.

So what am I doing right now? I'm sitting here on my futon blogging and typing my essay, also talking to my super awesome girl friend on skype!
oh it rained today, it felt realllly good, I just wish it would snow sometime soon!
I think its crazy that the first half of fall semester is over, school has been great. I like all my classes except for math and the dorm life isn't all that bad. I'm very sick and tired of the food here thought, and Vermillion isn't exactly the funnest town in the world, I love USD though, its a great school! when I'm not in class I wish I could be somewhere else though, like Colorado or Arizona or Seattle or somewhere that isn't Vermillion.
Well I'm going to go finish my essay now!

class reflection

What do I think of comp 101? hmmmmmmm it has been my second favorite english class I've have taken since highschool, right behind creative writing. I enjoy the teacher and the what we have been working on. I hope that I can grow as a writer in this class. I haven't ever really enjoyed english classes, until my senior year of highschool where I took creative writing, ever since then I have had a brighter outlook on english. So I've been a bit more enthusiastic about this class.
The only things about the class I haven't to fond about are the library test things. I already know how to use a research database, its just annoying. It seems that every year of english I have done some sort of library activity. and honestly I hate them. Aside from that this class is fun and I enjoy it, especially our debates.

To keep a breast, or not?

http://www.argusleader.com/article/20100903/NEWS/9030305/-I-love-boobies-bracelet-stirs-trouble-in-schools
So as I was browsing the interweb to find an article over some sort of controversial topic for this blog I decided to check the local newspaper from my hometown. I came across a pretty interesting article, it was about how some schools South Dakota are banning students from wearing the keep a breast bracelets that say on them "I love Boobies" that are for breast cancer awareness. Baltic High Principal Jim Aisenbrey told the Argus leader after a school assembly on the first day of school. “I think everybody in the gym, including myself, has had a family member or relative or friend who has dealt with the issue. I do think there are more proper ways to bring this plight to the attention of people, and I don’t think this is a proper way.”
The bracelets have been around for the last five years, but it wasn't until last year they started getting popular in the teen and highschool world. Schools across the country have began to ban them, calling them offensive and distracting and that kids don't actually wear them to support breast cancer, they just wear them because they say Boobies on them. I'm personally all for the bracelets. I think its a fun way to show your support for something. I didn't really catch on to them until I started working at Zumiez back home in the mall. We sell them there and every time I would be working people always come up to me and are like "do you know where the boobie bracelets are" so finally I decided to get one my self, and I'm glad I did. I feel good knowing i'm supporting a good cause. I hope that schools will see past what the bracelet says on it and realize what it actually supports
It seems that today schools ban just any little thing, I remember when I was in grade school and all my friends had those yu-gi-oh cards, they band those from school! The public education system needs to realize that kids will be kids. As long as no one is being physically harmed from the bracelets why ban them? I find there to be nothing wrong with them, they say I love boobies on them. I don't think that is sexual at all, I don't know maybe I'm just a biased opinion because I'm a teenager in college and work at the store that sells them.
Post a comment about what you think the schools should do about he bracelets I want to here some other peoples opinions.

My Proposed thing to write about

Well after thinking long and hard and procrastinating a bit, um I decided to go with my parents divorce. Why did I pick this topic you ask? Well because my parents divorce affected my life a lot. It was a hard time that has shaped who I am today. What kid hasn't been affected by something like this? I don't wanna give to much away in this blog because then why would you want to read my paper? You'll have to stay tuned for full paper :)

My 3 ideas for my essay

The three things that I have seemed to narrow my list down to are: the year I joined marching band at lincoln, the year I moved in with my best friends, and the year I started snowboarding. All three of which have shaped my life.
Marching band was defiantly an experience. I never thought I would ever do it, until this last summer my friend mike convinced me to do it. At first I hated it, the first two weeks were horrible. Slowly I grew to love it, I made so many new friends in it. Ill never forget that last year in marching band it was truly an awesome experience. I'm pretty sure I'm a much happy and better person today than I was before I joined band.
Also at the begging of senior year my parents got divorced, so in order to not move my senior year of highschool. It was a real trip living with my friends for a year. It wasn't all fun and games though. I had to get used to their family's rules. It was a lot different from my parents. It was a big learning experience and I think it was good year.
Snowboarding basically sums me up in one work. Its who I am and what I do. I never thought I'd come this far since I first started. I've met so many good friends and gone to so many amazing places. Its what I do and I love it!

If someone walked up to me on the street and asked me what I was all about, I'd tell him or herthat there are a number of things that define me. However one of the biggest things is music. I absolutely love it, I think I owe it to my grandma for talking me on long drives when I was little, blasting the radio as loud as it could go. It got me accustomed to loud noise. In 4th grade I started playing the sting bass, and two years later I learned how to play guitar and bass guitar. Not only do I love to play music, I love to listen to it. I love it, there'ss a song for every mood I'm in. I don't know what I would do without my iPod, I can't go a day with out listing to something. I've played bass in a few bands, playing shows are probably some of the funnest things I've ever done. I've made so many friends through music especially through bands. The most recent music related event that's affected my life and snapped me was joining marching band, I highly recommend that if anyone is even slightly interested in it, they should do it. So if you see me around, feel free to ask or talk to me about bands and stuff, I love hereing wha other people like listing to.
